History
In 1992, Bob Gass began jotting down various inspirations he had received based on over forty years of being involved in Christian leadership, and from the Biblical principles and Godly values instilled in him by his mother. Astounded by the response they received in the United States, Bob offered his devotional readings to Gareth Littler, the former CEO of UCB in the United Kingdom, to encourage their supporters. In April 1994, The Word for Today was launched in the UK with an initial print run of 3500 copies and circulated to their supporters within the UK.
Gareth shared with UCB International and the other UCB groups around the world about the success and popularity of The Word for Today and, in 1998, New Zealand and Australia began publishing it for their supporters.
From our first list of just 500 names handwritten in a note book, The Word for Today has grown in popularity here in Australia. We currently publish over 80 000 copies every quarter along with over 40 000 copies of word4U2day.
Bob Gass refers to The Word for Today as 'a kick start for cold mornings, when you don't feel like reading your Bible or find it a bit dry, that's when you need a good injection of inspiration. That's what I want to provide for our readers, something to focus their minds on God's goodness.'
The Word for Today is not intended to be an in depth daily Bible study but rather a daily reading that, from a Biblical perspective, deals with the issues we all face. Included with each day’s reading is the SoulFood Bible reading plan. Following SoulFood will enable you to read through the entire Bible in just one year.
